Chelsea starter left behind by Antonio Conte as team travel for Champions League test

Antonio Conte has a much stronger squad available to him now than he did after the last international break.

The manager had lost N’Golo Kante and Victor Moses, and had Danny Drinkwater still suffering from his niggling leg injury. Alvaro Morata had suffered his hamstring issue just a week before.

Now Conte has his team much closer to full fitness as they travel to Azerbaijan to face Qarabag. The Italian coach has had one injury call to make: despite having trained with the first team yesterday, Victor Moses has been left in London.

Youngster Dujon Sterling is in the squad in his place, and may see some minutes if the Blues build up a comfortable lead.

Moses is close to a return, and his training with the first team is a positive sign. It’s no surprise to see him left at home, and perhaps the coach is hoping to be able to rely on the Nigerian to start against his former loan team Liverpool this weekend.
