Chelsea interested in signing La Liga’s Team of the Year midfielder

Chelsea are interested in signing Villareal midfielder Manu Trigueros according to various reports from Spain.

The Blues’ midfield has suffered plenty of injury concerns this term, which has forced the club to go on the look-out for new inforcements. Key anchorman N’Golo Kante missed a total of six games due to a serious hamstring injury. The same problem kept summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko out for the beginning of the campaign, while the former Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater is still yet to regain his full fitness after his ankle injury suffered during the off-season.

The 26-year-old Trigueros has been one of Villareal’s most influential players during the past few seasons. The defensive midfielder missed just one league game last season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in that time.

He was also named into La Liga’s Team of the Year last season as the only player from Villareal.

Trigueros is expected to be close to the top of Chelsea’s January transfer target list, as manager Antonio Conte is determined to improve his squad depth for the remainder of the campaign. A move to Stamford Bridge could also help the Spanish player get his first call-up to Spain’s international team.
