Chelsea forward takes another step ahead of Diego Costa in race for World Cup starts

Alvaro Morata took another step closer to a starting berth at the World Cup with another impressive performance last night.

The Spaniard started up front for his country in a strong team in their friendly against Costa Rica, and he needed less than half an hour to find the net. He was taken off at half time to rest after another great showing.

That means that the forward has 8 goals for Chelsea in club games this season, along with 5 goals for Spain from his 3 starts for the country.

All of this has been while Diego Costa, his main rival for the starting slot up front for the 2010 champions, is sitting idle waiting for his return when Atleti’s transfer ban is lifted in January.

Morata would have to have a serious dip in form, and Costa an impressive resurgence, if the Brazilian born player is to usurp Alvaro’s starting spot now.
