Why can’t Chelsea sell Marcos Alonso to Real Madrid? Plenty of fans who don’t rate the Spaniard would be happy to see him go. He’s a man who divides opinion, with Saturday’s performance seemingly encapsulating Alonso.
The left wing back put in a series of dreadful crosses at the start of the game and had fans raging, but then before half time he had cushioned a gorgeous volley into the roof of the net to give Chelsea their third goal.
The common criticism of Alonso is that he’s inefficient in the final third, and the common defence of him is that he scores goals.
It’s an interesting dilemma, but whatever you think of the Spaniard, the one thing we can’t do is let him go.
The fact is that even if you don’t rate Alonso, he’s our one player in that position, and he’s proved he’s good enough to win the league.
Even if we need an upgrade, we can’t be getting rid of our one option in such a vital position.
