Antonio Conte explains Roman Abramovich’s presence at Chelsea training ground

There were reports last week that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had been at the club’s training ground, an ominous sign that usually precedes a manager being sacked.

In fact the last time that the Chelsea owner made his presence known at Cobham was just over a year ago, when Chelsea had suffered heavy defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal and were about to begin their 13 game unbeaten run that propelled them to the title.

In his press conference ahead of this weekend’s game against Manchester United, Antonio Conte confirmed that the Russian had been at training last weekend.

While he may have been pleased by the narrow win over Bournemouth, he won’t have been as pleased by the thrashing the Blues received from Roma, and if the team doesn’t look significantly better this Sunday, the Russian may be heading back to Cobham sooner than anyone might have expected.

Let’s hope that this latest visit inspires the team like the one last year did.
