£50m former Chelsea striker linked with shock Premier League return

Former Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been linked with a Premier League return, and that’s not as crazy as it sounds.

OK, it’s a terrible idea. The forward is pretty much shot, he can’t run much and he’s a shadow of even the player who we signed in that fateful January.

But it’s also the kind of desperate move that Premier League clubs make every January when they’re desperate for a striker – and there’s no shortage of teams who fall into that category in the Premier League this year. West Ham, Swansea and Newcastle can all consider themselves possibilities for the forward. And while you’re at it, why not add Crystal Palace and Southampton to that list.

Their issue is that while Torres isn’t getting into the team at Atleti, he may choose to simply retire at his boyhood club rather than slog it out up front in the rain in Wales for two years.

Having said that, you could do worse than Torres as a target man in the Prem. If Peter Crouch can still be winning points for Stoke, Torres could definitely make the difference for someone.
