Chelsea chasing £88m youngster as Pedro and Willian reach the end

Chelsea are interested in signing a young Romanian superstar, but they may have to pay big money to land the teen sensation, as they look for the right man to partner with Eden Hazard in their front line.

That man could be Florinel Coman, the young Romanian sensation who has been turning the heads of clubs all over Europe. He was snapped up by Steuea Bucharest in the summer but only after they fought off serious interest from Benfica – and if the Portuguese talent factory are interested, you know you may be on to something good.

According to the story in The Sun, the winger has a £88m release clause – although the Blues might well be able to prise him away for less than that given he cost Steaua just £2m in August.

Naturally a left sided player, Coman still appears to be very raw, but his pace and trickery would refresh a Blues front line that has two of it’s senior members – Willian and Pedro – entering their 30s and looking in need of refreshment over the coming seasons.

Coman clearly has already outgrown the Romanian league, as he’s now playing for the biggest club in the league and still looks like the outstanding player in the team. A move to Chelsea would likely see him join another European league on loan for a year or two to a bigger European league, while Pedro and Willian see out the final years of their peaks.

While both of the pair offer huge experience and have done great things for the club since they joined, neither has been consistently excellent this season, and the club should always be looking to upgrade that position to try and find someone with the potential to reach Hazard’s level.

Whether Coman will have the discipline required to keep Antonio Conte happy is another matter.
