Cesar Azpilicueta says Chelsea’s morale is low following winless run

Chelsea’s vice-captain Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that the mood in the Blues’ dressing room was ‘not the best’ after a 3-3 draw against AS Roma on Wednesday night.

Chelsea had a brilliant chance to claim the full nine points from their first three Champions League games after a disappointing run in the Premier League last week. First-half goals from David Luiz and Eden Hazard saw the Blues up by one after the first-half, but the hosts had to climb their way back even on the second period, with the game finishing 3-3 at Stamford Bridge.

Azpilicueta admits that the team is not in its best form at the moment, but reminds Chelsea are still on top of the group despite the draw.

The mood at the moment is not the best. It’s true that we are not in our best moment. We came into the game after two consecutive defeats in the Premier League.

We had the game in our hands when we were 2-0 up, but we also had it lost when we were 3-2 down. We managed to get a point, we are top of the group and we will keep fighting.

The 28-year-old says that the point they took from the Italian side was ‘big’, but the upcoming Premier League tie against Watford will be crucial regarding the team’s damaged self-confidence.

To come back into the game to get a point (against Roma) is big for the team, to show the character and that we won’t give up.

But the reality is that we have gone three games without a win and we will try to get back to winning ways on Saturday.
