Want-away striker may have a role to play this season for Chelsea in Premier League

Chelsea have made an interesting decision to name exiled striker Diego Costa in their 25-man Premier League list this season.

The transfer window ended last night with Chelsea not being able to settle on a fee and deal for the forward with Atletico madrid who were said to be in pole position to sign their former star.

Costa was certain to leave the Premier League this summer but a move of any sort away from Stamford Bridge could not materialize.

This is after Costa revealed in June, that Antonio Conte had sent him text message telling the 28-year old, he would not be part of his plans this season. However, following several discussions between both parties, the player could not be sold on.

He was asked by the club to return to the training base in Cobham, London but those requests fell on deaf ears. Costa insisted he will not return to train with his teammates in London and said in an interview with the Daily Mail, that he was being treated like a criminal.

Now that the transfer window is shut, Costa may have to get used to seeing his apparent arch enemy on a daily basis, should he return to the Blues.

What is not clear is if Chelsea will be able to offload the unwanted forward to Atletico, who are keen on bringing him back.

According to the Daily Mail, they are well informed by their sources in Spain, that the La Liga giants will not force the move as they are under a transfer embargo until January and may reignite their interest in the new year.

Another situation that is unclear is if Costa will have a part to play in Chelsea’s title defense since they named him in their 25-man squad for the season. It will be a remarkable story if Costa gets to wear the Blue shirt again in a competitive game.
