Why Chelsea’s cup draw could be good news for youth prospects

Chelsea have drawn Everton in the fifth round of the Carabao Cup.

After a comfortable 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest fielding a team full of youngsters and squad players, the Blues have picked up a home draw against the Toffees, who beat Sunderland 3-0.

Another home draw will be the big boost for the Blues, who have already beaten a struggling Everton side this season. There weren’t many easy draws left, with both Manchester clubs and Arsenal also progressing.

Antonio Conte will probably continue to use a rotated side, given the continuing onslaught of fixtures coming between now and the fifth round game. Youngsters like Ethan Ampadu and Dujon Sterling, who made their debuts tonight, can expect more game time in future rounds.

With Everton struggling so much despite heavy spending, Ronald Koeman will be likely be turning his focus heavily toward the Premier League as he struggles to save his season. He played several young players tonight. It suits both managers interest to continue doing that now.

We will see more of Musonda and the rest of the talented Chelsea youngsters in the near future.
