Chelsea star fit to face Atletico Madrid despite injury scare against Stoke City

Chelsea have received some very good news ahead of their huge Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid next Wednesday.

The Blues’ first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered a big injury scare against Stoke City yesterday as he landed awkwardly on his neck following a crowded aerial duel inside the box.

The lanky Belgian had to receive treatment from the physio team following the accident, but turned out to be just alright. The 25-year-old did not suffer concussion as first feared, and was able to keep the hosts scoreless all the way until the final whistle.

Manager Antonio Conte confirmed on his post-match interview that Courtois will be in the team to face his ex-side. The Italian says to have spoken with the physio on the touchline before making his second change of the game to bring on Cesc Fabregas. If Courtois had not been fine, former Manchester City keeper Willy Caballero had been subbed on.

“I spoke with the doctor and I asked if Thibaut was OK and the answer was positive. He said you can make another substitution.

The player is OK to play the next game at Atletico Madrid.”

Chelsea will play Atletico Madrid at 19:45 UK Time at the La Peineta on next Wednesday.
