Chelsea midfielder continues impressive run to the top of the table

Lewis Baker was always one of the brightest prospects in Chelsea’s youth academy, but he’s fallen out of the limelight somewhat in recent times.

The emergence of talents like Tammy Abraham from younger age groups, and a long spell in Holland with Vitesse has meant that Baker’s huge talent has been somewhat forgotten.

The advantage of that loan was that it gave him plenty of senior game time, and now that’s quietly paying off as he’s taken the next step at Middlesbrough.

After arriving Baker started on the bench for a couple of games, but he has now established himself comfortable as one of Gary Monk’s first XI, and he’s putting in some impressive performances as the side from the North East continue their climb up the table.

Boro look like they will be serious contenders for the playoffs this year, and like Kasey Palmer and Izzy Brown last year, Baker should play an important part in that.
