Chelsea face damaging FIFA sanctions once again over transfer violations

Chelsea are being investigated by FIFA over potentially having broken the organisation’s rules regarding transfers, according to the Daily Mail.

FIFA confirmed to the newspaper that they have launched an enquiry into the way the Blues have dealt with the signings of foreign players under the age of 18.

This is the third time that Chelsea have been investigated in recent times, following the famous Gael Kakuta case in 2007, and a more recent investigation of the signing of Bertrand Traore.

Atletico and Real Madrid were both sanctioned last year for similar dealings. and given transfer bans, but there is no indication that Chelsea’s sanctions will be as serious as this. However the growing list of offences is sure to cause worries at the top level of the club.

Liverpool and Manchester City have also had charges of improper conduct surrounding domestic academy players, and both were banned by the Premier League from signing academy players thanks to upheld accusations of “tapping up” the youngsters and their parents.

A statement from Chelsea said “‘Chelsea FC complies with all FIFA Statutes and Regulations when recruiting players.”
