Chelsea defender posts ridiculous stats in another superb performance

Cesar Azpilicueta sets himself pretty high standards. What’s impressive is the way he constantly exceeds our extremely high expectations.

Yesterday against Stoke the defender picked up two more assists to add to his impressive collection already this season, but in defence he took things to an entirely new level.

Playing as the right sided centre back, Azpi was exceptional as ever. But when he moved to left wing back to cover for Marcos Alonso who was removed after walking the disciplinary tightrope for a little too long – he excelled there too.

The 28 year old fan favourite made 4 tackles, an interception, 4 clearances and blocked a shot, according to the stats on WhoScored. This added up to a quite astonishing rating of 9.13 – only marginally less than hattrick hero Alvaro Morata who got 9.45.

You don’t need a stats website to tell you how well Azpi played yesterday anyway – you just need a pair of eyes.
