Chelsea defender gets international call

Chelsea’s brand spanking new Italian utility man Davide Zappacosta has been called up to his national team squad for their next qualifier against Israel.

The right back was a deadline day signing for Chelsea with a fee in the region of €25m, and he is expected to provide cover for Victor Moses at right back.

He has already been capped by his country several times, with his debut coming under Antonio Conte, but faces tough competition with established starters like Ignazio Abate along with up and coming Milan signing Andrea Conti all pushing for minutes.

All of this means Zappacosta is somewhat unlikely to feature for the Azzuri, but being around the squad will be a positive for a player who has already had a great week signing for the champions of England, with a hefty wage rise presumably thrown in too.

Italy are second in their group after a 3-0 defeat against Spain last night.
