‘Breakthrough’ in negotiations gives Atletico Madrid hope to sign Diego Costa

Sky Sports reports ‘breakthrough’ in negotiations between Chelsea and Ateltico Madrid over the transfer of Diego Costa.

The story goes on to say the Madrid outfit are confident of landing their summer target, now that a source at the club revealed to them, that Atletico have made progress in their discussions with Chelsea.

However the source denied there has been a definite solution to the saga with earlier reports suggesting Chelsea are holding out for a fee of around £50m while Atletico are only prepared to offer £30m.

The La Liga giants are banned from sealing transfers by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and can only sign players in January but were hoping to have an agreement in place with Chelsea ahead of the winter window.

The target, Costa, however is not prepared to stay at Chelsea till the new year after he refused to return to the club this summer break, preferring to remain in Lagarto, his hometown in Brazil. His refusal to train with his teammates is because he revealed Antonio Conte’s unwillingness to continue working with him.

The club has asked for his return to fulfill contract obligations until a transfer to another club is confirmed but the player is adamant he will not make a London return.
