A lot of people had high hopes for Alvaro Morata, but I don’t think anyone thought he would start this well.
The Spaniard scored three today and could have had 5, and all of a sudden he finds himself rocketing up the goalscoring charts in the Premier League.
He’s got a long way to go, and some serious competition in goal machine Romelu Lukaku and the free-scoring strike partnership at Manchester City, but the very fact that he’s even competing with them at this stage is impressive.
He’s netted 6 goals in 6 games for the club, and has two assists to boot. It won’t be possible for the former Real Madrid man to keep that up all year – he would be setting the all time single season record if he did – but it just shows how sharp he’s looking at this early stage.
Morata has silenced a lot of doubts about the “post-Costa era”, and the astonishing numbers he’s putting up are further evidence of that.
