Chelsea told to pay £40m for Premier League star

Chelsea may have to work out other means to sign up their midfield target from Leicester City if they are not prepared to pay £40m.

Multiple reports claim the Blues have been told by top officials at Leicester, that they will will need to sign a cheque of up to £40m for Danny Drinkwater.

Antonio Conte has alerted the club on the need to beef up their squad this summer following departures of first team players including Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa.

Chelsea have signed up Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace Matic but as injuries and suspensions at the beginning of the new seaosn have proven, Chelsea will need more players.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain haas been targeted by the Premier League champions as well but the deal to land the Arsenal midfielder from North London looks more difficult than that of Drinkwater.

Chelsea have already made a bid of £15m for Drinkwater but it looks as though their next bid of £25m will not be welcomed by the King Power chiefs.

The Daily Telegraph reports Chelsea will be told bluntly afterwards, they require the sum of £40m for the Englishman’s services.
