Chelsea ready to finally seal fifth and sixth summer signings

Chelsea are poised to complete the deals to land Leicester City duo Danny Drinkwater and Jamie Vardy this summer.

According to a report by the Mirror, the Blues have targeted the Premier League achievers to bolster their squad ahead of the season’s tough demands.

Drinkwater played alongside N’Golo Kante two seasons ago when Leicester won the title under Claudio Ranieiri, although Chelsea bought Kante the summer after.

Drinkwater has been a pale shadow of his former self and Chelsea are looking to rekindle their partnership in the Premier League even as Tiemoue Bakayoko provides adequate competition for both players.

Drinkwater has been linked recently to Chelsea alongside Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but it looks as though Chelsea are ready to test Leicester resolve by making a bid of £30m after their initial bid of £15m was rejected.

The shock move here is that of Vardy. Chelsea are clearly in search of another striker to help their attack line with Diego Costa set to depart the club this summer.

Vardy is thought to be admired by some top officials at Chelsea, especially club director Maria Granovskaia, who according to the Mirror wants Conte to sign younger or older players instead of players in their prime.

The 29-year old forward rejected the move to Arsenal last summer and instead signed a new deal worth £100,000-a-wee at the King Power stadium to remain with Leicester for five more years.

The England international scored 24 Premier League goals two seasons ago in Leicester’s title winning campaign and added a further 13 goals last season.
