Chelsea to make £25m offer for Premier League winning midfielder

Chelsea are desperate to add to their squad this summer as their thin squad will not get anywhere in their pursuit for more glory this season.

Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Antonio Rudiger and Willy Caballero have been brought in this summer but their arrivals have not sufficed at the club.

Fans want more, and more importantly Antonio Conte wants more. He has made this known severally in interviews this summer. Yet, Chelsea looks sluggish in their attempts to bring in targets.

No one knows why Romelu Lukaku was not snapped up early in the summer, a move for Alex Sandro never materialized as did their attempts to buy Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

However, the telegraph reports Chelsea will move for Danny Drinkwater again this summer after their initial bid for the midfielder was rejected by Leicester City.

The report claims Drinkwater is interested in the move to Chelsea to join his old pal N’Golo Kante who helped win the title last season. They in fact were the force in midfield when Claudio Ranieri masterminded the Foxes march towards the title two seasons ago.

He may find minutes hard to come by at Chelsea as Kante and Bakayoko look to be Conte’s first choice starters in a two-man midfield. Cesc Fabregas has also being starting games with the manager saying sometime during pre season, the Spanish player will be afforded more playing time this season.

Chelsea will promise Drinkwater game time though, with Champions League football on offer. This has turned the head of the player.

There’s a fight however from Leicester. They want £40m Chelsea received from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic although Chelsea value the England international at £25m.

A second bid, per the telegraph, is in on it’s way to the King Power as Chelsea are now in search of cover for first team regulars.

Fabregas is on suspension after his red card in Chelsea’s Premier League opener and with Matic out of the club, Chelsea have no back up players to call on in central midfield and the fear is what could happen if injury and suspension kicks in, in the middle of the season.
