Nemanja Matic to Man United deal looms after completing medical

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing a deal to land Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after the Manchester Evening News reported he has passed a medical on Sunday.

The defensive midfielder is believed to have undergone checks at Man United’s training base in Carrington with a deal worth £50million.

The Sun reported earlier that Chelsea had agreed a deal that rises to £50 million – £40m plus add-ons – with Jose Mourinho’s side.

A picture of Matic in a Man United shirt has been circulating on social media, although the legitimacy of the picture is yet to be known.

Matic was not part of Chelsea’s preseason tour in Asia and was left to train back in London after he was told he was surplus to requirements with Antonio Conte looking to rebuild Chelsea’s squad ahead of next season.

Mourinho has been on the look out for a new defensive midfielder to partner Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba. United’s chase for Tottenham Hotspurs’ Eric Dier failed following the high price quoted by the Spurs hierarchy.

Mourinho turned his attentions to the Serbian midfielder who helped Chelsea lift the Premier League title last season while featuring 35 times for the Blues in their triumphant campaign.

Chelsea are believed to have dragegd their feet in accepting United’s offer for Matic after the Red Devils gazumped them in their pursuit for former Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.

The Blues have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko as his replacement.
