Morata disappoints on debut after being forced out wide

Alvaro Morata’s first start for Chelsea lasted all of 64 minutes as the Spaniard started for the Blues for the first time against Inter Milan in Singapore.

The Spaniard started in a wide left position with Michy Batshuayi up front, and in the early stages there were signs of a promising partnership. Twice Batshuayi pinned an Inter defender with his strength and was able to turn and play in the Spaniard, who was just unable to get on the end of one of the passes in the box.

But after those early moments Morata faded from the game, showing the occasional flash of skill to win a corner but not contributing to a disjointed Chelsea performance.

Plenty of fans were demanding to see the Spaniard up front, and one feels that the return of Hazard and Pedro may well precipitate that move. Facing Batshuayi and Moraaa together will be a scary prospect for some teams, but one that likely will only appear when the Blues are chasing a game.
