Costa disaster for Chelsea as forward forces club into extending holiday

As reported yesterday, Diego Costa is not present at Chelsea’s preseason training that begins today at Cobham.

The development in the story today comes from Matt Law, who covers Chelsea regularly and with a high standard in the Telegraph. Today Law confirms the story, but importantly notes that Costa has the club’s permission to not attend, and is not rebelling as some had said previously.

Chelsea are apparently happy to let the want-away forward stay away from the camp in order to keep the mood at Cobham good, and allow the Brazilian more time to try and negotiate a deal with Atletico, which he has said himself is the only club he would consider joining.

At the moment the club from the Spanish capital have apparently put €30m on the table, but Chelsea are unsurprisingly holding out for more.

Costa holds all the cards at the moment in this particular saga and has Chelsea right where he wants them.
