Chelsea’s new 17 gets special Premier League permission

Charly Musonda has been named Chelsea’s new number 17 and has also been given special dispensation for a new name on the back of that shirt.

The word comes from Chelsea’s official website, who also note that Thibaut Courtois’ new backup Willy Caballero will take the number one shirt, continuing Courtois’ tradition of staying away from the first choice keeper’s usual favoured digit. Musonda will be number 17 and have “Musonda Jr.” above the numbers.

Musonda has shown great promise but has yet to really be given a chance in the senior team. He is currently training with the big boys however, and many Chelsea fans who want to see him make the breakthrough.

The next few weeks could be massive for the talented Belgian’s Chelsea career in deciding whether he will be farmed out once again or will finally get a shot in the first team squad for the coming season.

With places opening up with the impending departure of Ruben Loftus Cheek on loan, this might finally be the year of Charly Musonda… (Jr.)
