Chelsea tried to sign Kyle Walker – Antonio Conte

Antonio Conte has revealed Chelsea tried to sign Tottenham Hotspur full back Kyle Walker before he moved to Manchester City.

The right full back was sold to the Citizens for a fee of £45 million which could rise to £50 million  by Pep Guardiola’s free spending City side and subsequently added Benjamin Mendy and Danilo for a combined fee in excess of £70 million.

Conte believes the prices quoted for most players these days are way bloated and hinted that prevented Chelsea from raiding Spurs for one of the Premier League’s best defenders.

We tried to buy Walker. Honestly, I think now every single player is expensive. For you to even enquire about one player, he is expensive. You go to buy a right-back, a left-back or a central defender and he is expensive. It is very difficult in the transfer market for the teams that need to improve their squads.

33 of Walker’s appearances came in Spurs’ title chase last season.
