Chelsea reject €30m bid for Diego Costa as they hold out for a larger fee

According to reports in Spanish newspaper AS yesterday, Diego Costa will not be present at Cobham today as Chelsea begin preseason.

The Brazilian striker is looking to engineer a move away from the club back to Atletico Madrid, and will be going on strike to try and force a move back to Spain.

That same report in AS also carried the notable claim that Chelsea have already rejected a €30m bid from the Spanish club as they look to hold out for a higher fee.

This is in line with what we have heard rumoured in recent weeks, and one would imagine that Chelsea’s extremely weak bidding position, they may be willing to accept a fee not that much higher than €30m.

That would mean that a deal is not far off, and perhaps the search for the striker’s replacement can finally begin in earnest, with Romelu Lukaku now off the market.
