AC Milan confirm Diego Costa talks are underway

Chelsea striker Diego Costa is subject to a bid from AC Milan after the club’s chairman Marco Fassone confirmed his side are in talks with Jorge Mendes.

The Italian giants are chasing a top striker this summer and have set their sights on Chelsea’s outcast who revealed early this off season that Antonio Conte does not want have him in his plans next season.

The forward has his heart on a move back at Atletico Madrid where he was signed from in 2015, but with the Spanish giant’s transfer embargo, Costa may have to play somewhere to earn more minutes ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Milan’s chairman, Fassone, admits to SkySports his side are in negotiations with the player’s agent but will not confirm if they are making a bid soon.

I would prefer to avoid talking about players from other teams; Diego Costa is a great player, but a Chelsea player.

We went to see Jorge Mendes; there is a lot you can talk to him about. Costa is a great player but he is of Chelsea. That’s all.

Marco Fassone, Sky Sports

Costa has been Chelsea’s top scorer for the last three seasons but a rift with Conte in January sparked an expected point of separation between the two at the end of last season.

He was the subject of intense transfer talk in January after Tianjin Quanjin in the Chinese Super League were reportedly interested in the forward. The money on offer turned the head of Costa who was believed to be pushing for the move to Asia.

Chelsea rejected the move but Conte was resolved to parting ways with the Brazilian-born striker this summer.
