22 year old Chelsea favourite rejects new contract as Premier League rivals swoop for transfer

Nat Chalobah has rejected a new contract at Chelsea and will leave the club the summer, according to the Evening Standard’s Simon Johnson.

It’s a story we’ve heard several times in recent weeks, but it now seems set that the midfielder will reject whatever Chelsea offer him as he goes in search of more first team football.

It’s a reasonable decision and Chelsea fans will wish him well, but they will also rue the fact that successive managers failed to give the Englishman a chance in the team, now bringing him to the stage where he will leave for a cheap deal simply because he can’t trust the club to play him.

Watford should be a good destination for Chalobah, and he spent his most successful year there in 2012/2013 on loan, starting 37 games as the Hornets battled to the verge of Premier League promotion.

This isn’t over, but it looks just days away.
