How Salah’s £39m fee will benefit Chelsea’s transfer window

In many ways the sale of Mohamed Salah is a very regrettable move. Despite a few bright moments, the winger never really impressed at Chelsea, and from the moment he arrived found himself too far down the pecking order to really ever forge himself a chance at the first team under the notoriously stubborn Jose Mourinho.

In the end he was sent on an impressive loan to Fiorentina, followed by Roma, where he eventually moved permanently. Now the Egyptian winger is about to return to the Premier League, with Liverpool on the verge of completing a mega £39m deal.

This is disappointing for Chelsea as they sold him for a measly £12m last year, but at least the board had the foresight to add a 10% of profit clause to the deal, according to the Standard’s Simon Johnson.

This means that another £2.7m will trickle into the club’s coffers sometime this week, hopefully ready to be spent on some big moves of our own.
