Arsenal legend Paul Merson has garnered scorn from Chelsea fans for voicing his opinion about David Luiz, and predictably the former defender has decided to take a shot at the Brazilian.
After an excellent season from Luiz after returning from PSG on deadline day, the Brazilian defender made an error in the FA Cup final, which Merson has seized on as evidence that the preceding 9 months were some kind of illusion.
“I know everybody goes on about how good David Luiz has been but he got found out again in the FA Cup final” Merson guffed in quotes from Sky Sports carried by the Daily Mirror.
While Merse’s assessment of the former Benfica man is fairly two dimensional, he is right that Antonio Conte desperately needs to secure some depth in a squad which was operating at full capacity last season but will seriously be stretched by the demands of European football.
Andreas Christensen is returning from a two year loan however, and Nathan Ake has also looked capable of stepping up to the first team in the limited opportunities he has been given.
