New details of Bakayoko’s £42m Chelsea transfer emerge as deal nears

Chelsea are in talks with Monaco over the transfer of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko according to reports across yesterday’s papers.

The 22 year old was an important part of the impressive side that won Ligue 1 ahead of PSG and progressed to the Champions League semi finals and Chelsea’s interest in him has been heavily documented over the past few months.

It’s a move that will bring further depth to a Chelsea central midfield that already has N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic competing for two slots, with Nat Chalobah barely featuring.

The addition of Bakayoko could mean the departure of one of these players, with Chalobah looking like he may now need a loan for game time if one of the current crop don’t depart.

£42m is a huge sum of money for a player with just one year at the top level, but with prices as they are and increasing seemingly month by month, moving for a player who is proven at all seems a smart decision.

Chelsea fans may also be pleased by the detail included in the reports that Jose Mourinho wants Bakayoko, but looks set to be disappointed.
