Joe Cole has thrown his backing into the signing of Romelu Lukaku ahead of Alvaro Morata.
The former Blues midfielder was quoted in the Daily Mail discussing Antonio Conte’s need for a new striker to replace wantaway Costa this summer, and he came down firmly on the side of Romelu Lukaku despite the mixed feelings about the forward among Chelsea fans.
Cole also threw Sergio Aguero’s hat into the ring, as well as Alexis Sanchez, although neither of those deals seem nearly as likely or close to completion as Lukaku’s. There should be enough demand for both players that, even if their respective clubs decide to sell, they don’t have to sell to Chelsea or indeed any other Premier League rival.
This has lead to Morata being the favoured alternative to Lukaku, although Cole does point out one serious problem with the Spaniard compared to those other options: a lack of Premier League experience.
