Chelsea have completed their first signing of the summer, with Daishawn Redan joining the Blues from the Ajax academy.
According to reports on Dutch sites like Voetbalzone, the 16 year old has picked the Blues ahead of Man U, Man City and Ajax, and will be free to join up with the youth teams at Cobham from the first of July.
Chelsea’s youth sides have been the world’s most successful in recent years, winning handfuls of FA Youth Cups and the UEFA Youth League in both 2015 and 2016 before being denied the opportunity to complete the hattrick by the senior side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the preceding spell.
Redan turned 16 in February and was thus able to choose his next move. While Ajax are understandably disappointed to lose such a jewel from their academy, they are certainly not short of other young players who could come through and make the difference for the legendary Dutch club.
