Alex Sandro move closer than ever as Juventus chief confirms bid

Chelsea’s attempts to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro are meeting with surprisingly little resistance, as Antonio Conte’s side appear to close in on the 26 year old Brazilian.

A move that once looked truly fantastical is becoming more reasonable by the day, and the latest quotes from Juventus’ general manager Guiseppe Marotta – carried by ITV – show just how close a deal is to being done.

“A substantial offer has arrived.” Marotta said.

“We have no intention of selling anyone but if a player decides to leave, as has happened in previous years, then at the end of the day he has to go.”

Sandro has won the title twice with Juve since arriving two years ago and was a vital cog in the team that reached the Champions League final this year. The fact that he’s being allowed to leave – even for such a massive fee – is  true surprise given that Juventus are hardly a club that needs to sell.

But it’s great news for Conte the Blues who have struggled to get a deal over the line so far in the transfer window, who now have top class competition for Marcos Alonso at left back.
