Newcastle United have signed Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on a permanent deal after a successful loan in the North East.
The 25 year old joined the Toon last summer and scored 5 goals in 35 appearances for Rafael Benitez’s side as they earned automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Benitez spoke in glowing terms about the winger, saying that he had been a key part of the campaign and would continue to be an important presence next season. There has been a huge turnover of players at St James’ Park over the last year, with the Spanish manager making Atsu his 15th signing in a year.
The former Porto man had a clause in his loan that would allow the Magpies to make the deal permanent, and they have today confirmed that they have activated that clause.
Atsu was never given much of a chance at Stamford Bridge but clearly is a player who has enough ability to be a threat in the Premier League.
