Michy Batshuayi could join friend at Monaco to rebuild reputation

Today’s Telegraph carries further news about Chelsea interest in several Monaco players.

The Blues are apparently closing in on Tiemoue Bakayoko, the combative central midfielder who has been so instrumental in the club’s success this season as they stormed to a first Ligue 1 title in 17 years.

Antonio Conte has also apparently been interested by fellow midfielder Thomas Lemar, but the West London club are going to focus their efforts on Bakayoko as a deal for him is further advanced.

An interested twist to the tale comes in the form of Michy Batshuayi. the forward has struggled for games at Chelsea, and despite scoring the title-winning goal will probably end up loaned out or sold this summer. His friendship with Monaco full back Benjamin Mendy has been cited as a possible connection that may mean the Belgian ends up heading to the principality – either on a loan or a long term deal – as part of the Bakayoko transfer to Stamford Bridge.
