Diego Costa: ‘Romelu Lukaku could replace me at Chelsea’

Diego Costa, a man of few words, has recently been talking plenty about his current situation at the club, as well as the situation of his team-mates and possible signings.

The Spanish international has now talked about Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and whether he could be joining Chelsea this summer.

The 28-year-old striker himself has been linked with a big-money move to China and is also targeted by his former side Atletico Madrid, but recent reports are also strongly linking him to a Chelsea stay.

Costa was asked whether he could see himself playing in turns as Chelsea’s first-choice striker with Romelu Lukaku, should the Blues re-sign the current Toffees star, and he said he hopes Lukaku can have a chance to join the Blues again.

“I do not know, that’s a decision for the club. Of course Lukaku is a very big player who has played an impressive season. I hope he will have the possibility to sign at Chelsea because Chelsea is a unique club.”

The 22-goal man was also asked about the situation of Chelsea’s current second-choice striker Michy Batshuayi, and Costa said that should he leave, the Belgian would probably stay.

“He is a big player and has an impressive future for himself He has proven in the last games that he has quality and scoring ability. He is a boy who will take more big steps.”

Hopefully he will continue to grow and keep his head up. He has all the qualities to stay here. Chelsea might sign a new striker, Batshuayi may stay because he’s young and I could be leaving.”

Chelsea are expected to sign at least one new striker this summer transfer window, and with the rumours of Alvaro Morata fading away recently, re-signing Romelu Lukaku would make a lot of sense.
