Chelsea to spend 1/4 of £200m transfer funds on Monaco midfielder

Chelsea are preparing for a summer of big spending, with £200m million available for Antonio Conte to prepare his squad for the Champions League next term.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who also claim the first block to fall into place will be Tiemoue Bakayoko, the Monaco midfielder who has excelled for the club from the principality as they’ve stormed to the Ligue 1 title this year; their first in 17 years.

Some Blues fans were concerned by the Frenchman’s performance against Juventus in the semi-finals, but it’s hard to hold a game of such high standard against a player who has barely broken into the team.

The paper also claims that Chelsea are interested in Thomas Lemar, the dangerous wide man in the youthful Monegasque side.

While plenty of other sides are eyeing up Monaco’s talents, Chelsea believe they have stolen a march of their rivals in the chase for Bakayoko, and having been working on a deal for some time, are prepared to spend £40m to get the deal done early in the summer.
