Chelsea loan star Andreas Christensen has been tipped to make a return to the Blues this summer following his impressive performances at Borussia Monchengladbach this season.
However, according to reports in Germany, the Bundesliga could still be given the possibility to sign Christensen on a permanent deal, as the Blues are edging closer to the signature of Southampton skipper Virgil Van Dijk.
Chelsea are big admirers of Van Dijk and want to sign the £50m valued centre-back this summer ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, who are also monitoring the Netherlands international’s situation at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Borussia Monchengladbach are prepared to break their club transfer record to land the Danish defender on a £20m permanent deal, with the German side’s director of sport Max Eberl having great connections with the head of Chelsea.
Christensen himself has stated he’s happy to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach if he won’t be guaranteed first-team football at Stamford Bridge, and should Chelsea sign Van Dijk, he might never return to West London again.
Of course, it’s all still very hypothetical as it’s still unclear whether there will be more defenders leaving the club this summer than just John Terry.
