Spanish side FC Barcelona have reportedly opened the initial talks over the transfer of Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, according to reports from Spain.
The Spain international and a two-time Premier League champion has topped the transfer target list for Barca, as the La Liga giants are hopeful of landing a new full-back this summer.
Barcelona are also very keen on Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin, but Azpilicueta’s versatility and experience is making him a serious target for the Catalan side.
And Barcelona’s technical secretary Robert Fernandez has ‘already started’ negotiations with the 27-year-old.
Chelsea signed Azpilicueta from Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille in the summer of 2012, and the consistent defender has been a key player for the Blues in each season he has played for the West London side.
Starting from the right-back’s position, he later replaced Ashley Cole on the left and is now the third centre-back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system.
