Three reasons that Michy Batshuayi’s West Ham move is a good idea

Michy Batshuayi has today been linked with a move to West Ham in the Daily Mail.

The paper suggests that the Belgian striker is frustrated by a lack of playing time and wants to complete a loan move away from Stamford Bridge in order to get his career back on track after a period of stagnation.

Batshuayi has shown great promise when coming on for Chelsea this season, and in the rare games he’s started, but a loan move for next season would still seem like a wise move, for the following reasons.

Firstly Antonio Conte’s one striker system, lead by Diego Costa, does not give many opportunities for a reserve striker. As long as Diego is fit he starts every week, and as Chelsea take the lead in the majority of games, there is usually little call for a second front man.

Secondly, at West Ham Batshuayi would be backing up a very injury prone player in Andy Carroll, meaning he’s almost guaranteed a decent number of starts through the season. Add in the fact that Carroll’s style is similar to Michy’s and the fit is a good one.

Finally, Slaven Bilic is a good manager who has shown through the past two seasons that he’s able to get the best out of players who had previously underperformed. West Ham were exceptional last year and this year have only faltered thanks to issues over their stadium move. The Croatian coach can be trusted with the development of the Belgian striker.

Blues fans have a lot of faith in the young forward and many would like to see him get more minutes to prove himself. This seems like the best way to make that happen at the top level.
