N’Golo Kante reveals decision that changed Premier League history

N’Golo Kante has revealed a decision he made in the summer of 2015 that changed the course of Premier League football forever.

The usually quiet French midfielder has been tempted into an interview with Canal + (quoted on The Evening Standard) while on international duty.

In it he revealed how close he came to joining Marseille from Caen where he had played the 2014/2015 season, before he eventually chose Leicester and became Claudio Ranieri’s first and most important signing.

If Kante had ended up choosing Marseille, the Foxes probably would not have won the league last year, Kante probably would not have moved to Chelsea this term, and in all likelihood the Blues would not be cruising to a second league title in two years.

It appears that one of those “sliding doors” moments happened when the midfielder headed to the Premier League. It’s hard to think of another player who has affected the fortunes of his teams as heavily as Kante has in the Premier League, and the magic of Leicester’s title win would in all likelihood never have occurred if he had chosen to stay in his home country.
