Chelsea lead race to sign 21-goal striker amid Costa exit rumours

Chelsea lead the race to sign former striker and Everton talisman Romelu Lukaku, according to the Daily Mail.

Lukaku joined Chelsea as a teenager in 2011, but only ever made 15 appearances for the Blues before being shipped out on respective loans to West Brom and Everton.

During spells away at the club, the Belgian bagged 32 goals in just two Premier League seasons – but Jose Mourinho saw no place for him in the Chelsea squad. He was subsequently sold to Everton on a permanent basis.

During his time at Goodison Park, he has firmly established himself as one of the best strikers in the league. He has found the back of the net 21 times in England’s top tier this term, meaning he leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

His good performances appear to have recaptured the attention of Chelsea. The Daily Mail believe that Antonio Conte is keen to bring Lukaku back to the Bridge, and the league leaders are ahead of the chasing pack in the race to secure his services.

The Daily Mail believe that both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing the 23-year-old, who they believe is rated at an eye-watering £60million.

The tabloid also note that Diego Costa’s future at Chelsea in doubt. Lukaku certainly wouldn’t be a bad replacement if Costa does depart in the summer.
