Chelsea make offer for club legend Frank Lampard

Chelsea have offered club legend Frank Lampard an ambassador role at Stamford Bridge after the player officially retired from his playing career last week, the Times reports.

The former England international hung up his boots last week a few months after his contract at MLS side New York City FC came to an end, and it’s believed that as Chelsea’s all-time goalscorer he would love to retain his strong relationship with the club, and perhaps join them in a whole new role.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard recently turned out to do exactly that, as after his retirement from competitive football, the ex-Reds skipper took a role in the club’s academy.

Lampard’s new role at Chelsea would offer him the chance to develop his coaching abilities by being involved in the training of Chelsea’s development squad.

The former Manchester City and West Ham midfielder has also been targeted by the FA, who are keen to bring the 38-year-old to their current set-up at the St. George’s Park.

The Russian club owner Roman Abramovich is also hopeful of landing other club legends such as Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, John Terry and Ashley Cole to the side’s management when their playing careers are finally over.
