Chelsea lead race for £25m-rated Uruguayan prodigy

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race for Uruguayan striker Joaquin Ardaiz, despite a fierce interest from other big European clubs such as Manchester United and Barcelona, The Sun claims.

Informal talks are reportedly underway between the West London side and the player’s representatives, as the player is looking very likely to leave his current side Danubio with a handful of top-flight clubs keen on him.

The 18-year-old goal poacher has had a stunning start to his career both for club and for country. Ardaiz scored Uruguay’s both goals to beat Ecuador 2-1 in the South American-U20s Championship final earlier this month, and will be part of the U20s World Cup squad in South Korea in May.

And due to the busy schedule, the player is looking to secure a move to Europe with his English agent Nick Maytum setting the Blues into the leading position.

Ardaiz was linked with a move to Liverpool last year as well.
