Antonio Conte answers to Diego Costa’s contract speculation

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has opened up about the speculation claiming Diego Costa being on the verge of signing a new contract with the Blues to ward off interest from the Chinese Super League and Atletico Madrid.

Costa was the subject of a big-money offer from China in January and the Blues are now hoping to tie down their leading goal-scorer with a new deal, granting the player a strong £220,000-a-week salary which would easily place him into the Top 5 of highest earning players in the Premier League.

According to reports Costa’s representatives have reached a formal agreement over the contract extension with the club’s hierarchy, but Conte doesn’t want to confirm anything just yet as he’s planning to stick to the weekly playing routines now and move onto contract talks in the summer.

“I don’t know about this situation. It is important to focus on the present.

For the players, for me it is important to focus on the present new messages.

I am confident [he will stay here] but not it is important to keep the great concentration for the game against Wolves. We must go into the next round and then this situation will be better to face in the summer.”
