Pep Guardiola has given up on catching Chelsea in mid-January

Pep Guardiola admitted that his side have now fallen too far behind Chelsea to have a realistic chance of overtaking them, following Manchester City’s 4-0 loss to Everton.

The loss, combined with Chelsea’s win yesterday puts his team 10 points off the Blues in the Premier League, an impossible looking total given the form the Blues are in at the moment.

It would take a shocking collapse for Chelsea to be caught by City now, and Guardiola admitted as much. When asked if the gap was too big to bridge, the former Barcelona manager replied

“By the first one? Yes. Ten points is a lot of points.”

The Evening Standard had more quotes from the Guardiola, who is under pressure following a comprehensive defeat to a resurgent Toffees side. The fact that a team considered by most to be favorites to win the league ahead of Chelsea are now left in our dust by January is very satisfying, and testament to the amazing work being done by Antonio Conte.
