Chelsea table offer for Bayer Leverkusen star

According to reports from Turkey, Chelsea have made an offer for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu as they see the midfielder as a perfect replacement for Oscar.

The Brazilian ace had fallen down in Antonio Conte’s pecking order and made a big-money move to China when the chance came, leaving the Blues with £60m transfer fee to burn a hole in the Chelsea boss’ back pocket.

The source believes that the 22-year-old is unlikely to move away this January, as he’s happy to remain where he is, but a summer transfer ‘could be on the cards’.

Calhanoglu has admirers all over Europe, with Chelsea’s big rival club Manchester United also monitoring the Turkey international’s situation.

He’s well known for his specialty in dead-ball situations, and he has bagged five goals and six assists to his name in 20 appearances this season.

The Bundesliga star could be a huge asset in Chelsea’s set-piece play, since the Blues have scored just six goals from set-pieces this season – which is even worse than Hull City, West Brom and West Ham.

Chelsea were also showing interest on Calhanoglu’s team-mate Javier Hernandez, but the Mexican forward is not keen to make a move since he’s finally starting every game and doesn’t want yet another back-up role in the team.
