Chelsea sell English striker to Premier League rivals

Chelsea have sold Patrick Bamford to Middlesbrough for a fee that could rise to £10m.

The striker leaves Stamford Bridge without ever having made an appearance.

He had been on loan at Burnley this season, but did not make an appearance for the Clarets.

It marked another disappointing loan spell for a player who has simply been unable to break into a Premier League first team despite several attempts.

A return to the North East, where he had his greatest success in 2014/2015 seems a good move, and most Chelsea fans will wish the best for a player who never really got the chance his talent may have merited.

Hopefully for his sake, and the sake of getting that £10m, he can finally make a breakthrough at the same place he scored 19 Championship goals and won the Player of the Year award.
