Chelsea legend joins Swansea City as a coach

Chelsea legend Claude Makelele has joined Swansea City as a coach.

The 43 year old spent 5 years at Stamford Bridge, forming an integral part of Jose Mourinho’s double title winning team.

Having joined from Real Madrid, Makelele went on to revolutionise the defensive midfield position in this country playing as the deepest in the midfield 3 of Jose Mourinho’s side.

It was at Chelsea that the Frenchman met Paul Clement, at that time a coach with the Blues. Makelele then moved to Paris Saint Germain to finish his playing career and then begin coaching. He linked up with Clement again there when the English coach was brought from Stamford Bridge with Carlo Ancelotti.

Now the two are set to join forces for a third time, with Clement having taken the vacant manager’s job at Swansea City.

Makelele’s defensive nous is sorely needed in the team’s leaky back line, and it’s clear to see what Clement thinks his old colleague can bring to the club.
